Weathervane Construction has been in business since 2002. Jim Bristol III, a company principal, along with his brother David, and his childhood friend Stuart Hemingway have built the business into a successful real estate development and construction company. It is gracing the South Shore with communities that will last as long as the stone their ancestors quarried. With a solid reputation for high quality and a proven ability to work closely with local leadership, Weathervane has become the leading residential developer in the area.

In the early 1900’s Russell and Earle Bates, along with their father Gustave, started quarrying granite along the Hingham Weymouth line. In 1920 the brothers incorporated as Bates Brothers Seam Face Granite Co. They operated multiple quarry holes in and amongst a large number of other quarry operators in the area, producing dimensional building stone and crushed aggregates.
In 1953 Russell’s daughter Mary and her husband Jim Bristol joined the family business and they continue to operate the business to this day. Along the way Jim acquired Bates Bros. neighbor, J. F. Price Co. The Price family was producing sand, crushed stone, and aggregate directly adjacent to the Bates Bros. quarry.
